Julia Broulidakis

Attorney

A graduate of University of Maine School of Law, Julia’s interest in immigration law came through experiences as a child, and from traveling and meeting people from diverse backgrounds.

Upon graduation from Bates College, Julia worked as a paralegal at a business immigration law practice in Boston. Julia enjoyed the personal side of immigration law: learning clients’ stories and why they chose to immigrate to the United States.

“From the start I enjoyed hearing individual’s stories, and learning about their unique talents, education, and lived experiences that they would contribute to their employment and their community in the United States,” Julia said. “I enjoyed being part of the team that helped achieve their immigration goals.”

At University of Maine School of Law, Julia completed intern- and externships in criminal prosecution and civil rights law, and while she was grateful for those experiences and expanding her legal knowledge, she found the most joy and fulfillment in immigration law. In law school, Julia was a Student Attorney with the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic. In this role, Julia assisted an asylum seeker with filing their defensive asylum application with the Boston Immigration Court and preparing for the individual merits hearing. She also engaged with local nonprofits and immigration advocates in the Greater Portland community to develop informational materials to assist asylum seekers in accessing legal assistance within the community. She loves seeing the direct impact her work in immigration law has for her clients.

“I knew that with a law degree I could use the privilege of my education and licensure to support individuals and businesses through our complex immigration system,” Julia said.

Empathetic communicator

Julia brings empathy and active listening to her practice – attributes that help ensure open communication with clients and finding the best solution for their case.

“I am humbled that individuals and clients see me as a partner in their immigration case, and I think that begins with listening to their concerns, their goals for the representation, and from that understanding, creating a solution that fits their specific needs,” Julia said.

An avid outdoorswoman, Julia enjoys hiking in the White Mountains and camping with her husband and rescue-mutt Sammie. She is a classically trained singer, and looks forward to pursuing choral arts in her free time.

Julia’s words to live by: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”  – Benjamin Franklin.
