USCIS announced a partnership with the Social Security Administration that will permit petitioners for lawful permanent resident status to apply for a Social Security number or replacement card as part of the Adjustment of Status application process.
What You Need to Know:
- The partnership eliminates the need for green card petitioners to apply for a Social Security number at a Social Security office.
- Revisions will be made to Form I-485 to include additional questions needed to apply for a Social Security number of replacement card.
- The change to Form I-485 is effective immediately, and will not increase the filing fee for Form I-485.
